Children's Play & Art Therapy: Maple Ridge & Beyond

Finding Their Voice, In Their Own Way

Children don't always have the words for what they're feeling — and they shouldn't have to. Through play and creative expression, kids are given a language that feels natural to them, one where big emotions, worries, and experiences can be explored safely, without pressure to explain them in words they may not yet have.

Play and art therapy for children offers a warm, welcoming space where your child can simply be a kid — curious, expressive, and free to move at their own pace — while gently working through whatever they're carrying.

What Play & Art Therapy Can Support

Just as roots grow quietly beneath the surface before anything is visible above ground, a child's healing often begins in small, unspoken ways — long before it shows up as changed behaviour at home or school. Children's counselling can offer support for:

  • Anxiety, big emotions, or difficulty regulating

  • Behavioural changes at home or school

  • Grief, loss, or major life transitions

  • Divorce or family changes

  • Trauma and adverse experiences

  • Social and friendship difficulties

  • Autism, ADHD, and neurodivergent experiences

Parenting Support & Guidance

What Play & Art Therapy Can Support

Parenting is one of the most rewarding — and most challenging — roles you'll ever take on. Whether you're navigating a toddler's tantrums, a teenager's withdrawal, or just wondering if you're doing it "right," you're not alone in feeling that way.

Parenting support isn't about being told what to do — it's a warm, neutral space to reflect, gain perspective, and build confidence in your own parenting. You don't need to be in crisis to reach out; many parents simply want help understanding their child's behaviour or finding more calm and connection day-to-day.

I also bring specialized experience supporting families navigating autism, ADHD, and neurodiversity — offering understanding, practical support, and a space where your family's experience is truly seen and valued.
You don't have to have all the answers — just a willingness to show up.

  • Where So Much of Life Happens

School is so much more than academics — it's where children navigate friendships, manage emotions, and face social pressures. When a child is struggling, it rarely stays at school; it ripples into every part of their life, including home. I work collaboratively with families, and where appropriate, with teachers and school staff, to help children thrive academically, emotionally, and socially.

For neurodivergent children, including those with autism, ADHD, or other learning differences, school can bring unique challenges. I bring specialized experience supporting these children and their families, helping create environments where they feel understood and set up to succeed on their own terms.

Every child deserves to feel safe, seen, and supported — in the classroom and beyond.

(For support navigating the Individualized Education Plan process specifically, see IEP Meetings below.)

  • Navigating IEPs — You Don't Have to Do It Alone

IEP meetings can feel intimidating and overwhelming for many parents. Between the paperwork, the terminology, and the room full of professionals, it's easy to feel like your voice — and your child's — can get lost in the process. I'm here to walk alongside you, helping you understand what's happening at each step and feel more confident and prepared going in.

Together, we'll make sure your child's voice and needs are clearly heard, and work collaboratively with you and the school team to put the right accommodations in place. This isn't about you facing the school system on your own — it's about having someone in your corner who understands the process and is invested in the outcome, just as much as you are.

Every child deserves a plan that truly reflects who they are, their strengths, and what they need to thrive — not just a generic checklist of accommodations. My goal is to help you feel empowered and heard throughout the process, so you can advocate for your child with clarity and confidence.

  • Advocating Together  for the Child You Love

As a therapist — not a psychologist — my role in this area is one of support and advocacy. I am not able to provide formal diagnostic assessments, but I can offer supplementary letters and professional documentation based on my clinical observations that may help inform and support the process.

When a family is pursuing a potential diagnosis of autism, ADHD, or other neurodevelopmental differences, having a therapist's observations and insights can be a valuable piece of the puzzle. My documentation can help paint a clearer picture for the psychologists, pediatricians, and other professionals involved in the formal assessment process — ensuring your child's needs are well represented and nothing important is overlooked.

Advocating for the child who holds your whole heart.
